Research Notes:
On the 1871 census, Mary ann is marked as the niece of the Head of Household, Edward Williams, although we do not have much indication who the parents are. It is possible that this Mary Ann is actually Jemima's daughter. Jemima has a daughter by the time of the 1881 census, named Margaret aged 10. You would have imagined that the now 10 yr old would have appeared on the census at this time - but no trace can be found. It is quite possible that the name was changed to Margaret later, since the baby was only one week old at the census date. No Mary Ann Williams' show in the Pontypool Birth indexes for Jan-Mar or Apr-Jun in this period, although two Margaret Williams' show. They are: Jan-Mar 1871: Margaret Williams. Vol 11a. Page: 145 Apr-Jun 1871: Margaret Hannah Williams. Vol 11a. Page 154.
