The Baptist Church at Glascoed to Mr Pugh, Student of Pontypool and Regent’s Park Colleges

Dear Brother

At a duly convened Meeting it was unanimously agreed to give you an invitation to become our Pastor, and to offer you one pound per week being the utmost that we can make at present, while waiting for your decision we hope and pray that the Divine Spirit will direct your mind to accept our invitation.

We are dear Brother, yours in Christ

Signed for the Church: John Edmunds, Henry Williams, John Morgan, Wm Williams, Edward Rees, John Walkley, Deacons.

To the Baptist Church (unclear)

Dear Brother & Sisters

Your invitation to me to become your pastor has now been with me a matter of thought and prayer. It might be said that six years training ought to claim for me a wider sphere of usefulness; and the necessity of removing might be urged against my accepting your Invitation.

Then on the hand the locality of the place seems to be most suitable to my Present state of health, and also the consideration that to be able to do a little good work is better than none at all, might be sufficient reason for taking to any sphere however small.

But above all these considerations there come to me the thought that your unanimous invitation is to me the voice of God, and with this thought which I feel to be paramount. I cannot but listen to the call & endeavour to make myself useful among you until providence shall lead me to a more useful field of labour.

Now it is my earnest prayer that we may be able to work together for the Master with one heart and mind; and that the Lord will make me a blessing to you and you a blessing to me, so that the little time we shall be together may be a happy time a time of refreshing from the Lord

I remain yours faithfully, John Pugh
