The Gwatkin family

The Gwatkin family appeared in Glascoed on the 1881 census at Maes Mawr farm. They had been farming locally for decades, in Goytre and came to Glascoed later in life. William was aged 60 and his wife  Eliza, 61. Three mature sons (John, Richard and Edmund) joined them at Maes Mawr. Edmund took over the farm from his parents (as we see on the 1901 census) although had moved away from farming by 1911, working as a Milk vendor, living at New Inn, a neighbouring village.

For more on the Gwatkins, see William’s page. Others may be added in due course.
