Edwin Pitt (1886-) |
Edwin Pitt
General Notes: It is also true that Edwin was a Communist. In fact, he was an out and out Stalinist, and in later life he tried to be a Maoist too. He couldn't understand why Russia and China had fallen out. As an old man, he made at least one, and I think two pilgrimages to Russia, and came back full of the wonders of the Worker's Paradise, with a couple of small busts of Marx and Lenin in his suitcase as mementos. I can remember him trying to convert me to the Cause was when I was about ten years old! Birth Notes: Born in first quarter of 1886 according to St. Catherine's House birth indexes. Noted events in his life were: • Occupation: Coal Miner then other. • Census: 1891, 5 Apr 1891, 5 Mill Road, Pontnewynydd, Monmouthshire. • Occupation: Clerk at Colliery, 1901, Pontnewynydd, Monmouthshire. • Census: 1901, 31 Mar 1901, 5 Mill Road, Pontnewynydd, Monmouthshire. Edwin married Maud Evans. |
