I believe that this is likely to be the same John Davis. I searched the 1881 census for John Davis' born between 1832 and 1842 at Llanfihangel, Mon and this is the only result that appeared. Since there could be other explanations with John Davis being a very common welsh name, I have not added the record to the main database on John. There may quite possibly have been more than one John Davies born in Pontymoile around this time and "our" John may have moved or died in the intervening period or simply have been mis-transcribed. I'd be 80% sure that this is the right person, but would like to be more sure before adding this census return to his record and labelling it as fact.
