John may actually have been born in Glascoed and not Gloucester, as the birth index shows a John Arthur Rees born in Pontypool registration district in Oct-Dec quarter 1878.

The only John Rees/Reese/Reece born in Gloucestershire was registered in the Barton Regis Reg district. April-Jun 1878 Vol 6a Page 140. This is actually in Bristol, not Gloucester.
