Strange anomalies re James' death.

The census records show:

1901 - James is alive.
1911 James has died (Maria is listed as "widow").

The monumental inscription on his grave at Mount Zion Chapel in Glascoed reads:
"In loving memory of James Sainsbury who died June 15th 1895 aged 69 years. Also Maria wife of the above died January 29th 1918 aged 77 years."

All 3 MIs for the graveyard agree with this date.

There is no death register record of James dying in Monmouthshire in 1895 or 1905 (searched both surname only and christian name only). Nor for James' in Pontypool reg district between 1901 and 1911.

It may be that he died elsewhere, that some of the transcriptions are wrong (from Free BMD) or that there is another answer I haven't thought of yet!
